The Long Dark Night of the Arms Trade
The Conch invite all our friends and fans to support this important event: The Long Dark Night of the Arms Trade on 21 June at Trades Hall.

This year, on the 90th anniversary of Armistice Day, the Premier of South Australia has invited a group of arms dealers from around the world to Adelaide, for The Asia Pacific Defence & Security Exhibition (APDSE) - an international arms fair scheduled for November this year.
A trade fair for the war industry, this event will see the arms dealers getting together to talk about business opportunities and profit to be made from arming the Asia Pacific region.
The profits of war are of course, huge and for every person who has their life destroyed by a gun, a mine, a bomb, a razor wire fence or a steel capped boot, for every child orphaned by and for every woman raped in war, there's an
arms dealer making a tidy profit.
On the 90th anniversary of Armistice Day, 11 November 2008, on a day normally set aside for remembering the horrors of war, these same profiteering arms dealers have the gall to open their event in the Adelaide Convention Centre, making the deals which will end in more people suffering.
Well, many of you will remember the last time these people came to town: AIDEX'91, when the Australian people, churches, unions, solidarity and green groups showed them that they were not welcome here and successfully canceled the proposed follow up show in 1993.
We can do it again.
Join us in celebrating the beginning of the end of the largest Arms Trade Fair held in Australia since AIDEX 1991.
On the longest night of the year The Conch, Salsa band Colombi and DJ Paul Kidney will cook up a storm on the dance floor while LASNET do the same in the kitchen as we get our acts together for a repeat performance of one of the most iconic struggles in the Australian peace movements history.

Xmas Party this Sunday at the Noise Bar!
Come and celebrate the end of the Howard era!!
It's benn-a-long time coming!
It may have taken too long but we finally got rid of the Howard government. Make no mistake about it, this was our doing. Rudd's Labor was elected, despite itself, because of the movements and community organising that built up throughout those dark years. The same campaigns and movements that make up the Greens’ support but have yet to prove strong enough and united enough to provide a viable alternative to the conservative policies of both Liberal and Labor.
Let's celebrate the end of a dark era and the unity and strength that got us here!
Let's prepare for new battles!
Let's build our collective strength and unity!
Most of all let's imagine a different world, and work together to make it from the solidarity and love we have in our communities.
Thanks so much to all Conch fans for supporting our project over the year, we hope to see you on the 16th, and in 2008 - best wishes for the struggle!
Cheers,
The Conch
